In July 2026 Istanbul hosted the World Symposium on Coccyx Disorders where the worlds leading researchers and experts on the topic gathered.

It was the first symposium I attended and was honored to be invited as a speaker. On this page you can find my presentation and the paper I wrote regarding tailbone pain as the source of that and that got me invited for the symposium. Here I will dive into a possible underlying explanatory mechanics for coccydynia seen from a biomechanical perspective and the effects of passive manual mobilisations.

I also will record a podcast episode about the symposium with the useful information for patients. It will be live mid of August en you can find it together with the other episodes of the podcast on this page.
If there are any questions, feedback or comments about my paper, presentation, the podcast episode or the symposium, I would love to receive them at roel@roelwilbers.nl
If you don’t know me yet and haven’t read this website, seen me on Instagram or listened to my podcast; I am very passionate to get the message out there that tailbone pain can be very well treated! And if you are working in healthcare and interested in learning the external manual mobilisation technique, send me an email and I can inform you about the 3 day training Manual Mobilisations for Coccydynia that I developed. These three days are sufficient to learn all about the diagnostics, mechanics and treatments techniques and how to treat patients with the external manual mobilisations. I also hear many doctors that want to send their patients to a specialised therapist, but they are not avaialble where they work. If there is a group interested, I also organise these trainings abroad.
My presentation at the Symposium
The paper
This paper is the basis of my presentation and the reason for my invitation as a speaker to the world symposium in Istanbul.
I want to thank all the organisers for a great event. I learned a lot and met a very nice group of colleagues that are as passionate about the tailbone as me.
