Welcome to the tailbone therapist
Most tailbone pain and problems are fully resolvable by specialised physiotherapy

Welcome at my website about tailbone problems. An issue that is not understood by most doctors and therapists, but with the right knowledge and expertise, often something not too different of other joint problems in the body where there is a lack of freedom of movement. Therefor it is also often easy to treat; in most cases even painless and with quick results. Athough this might sound to good to be true, these results are also experienced by other specialised therapists on a dailt basis and mainly a lot of patients, even after many years of pain.
You can find all you need to know about tailbone problems and the treatment on this website.
Are you looking for a therapist to help you? At the page Appointment you will find where I work in Amsterdam and how to find a colleague elsewhere in the Netherlands.
Tailbone pain / Coccydynia

Tailbone pain, also called coccydynia, mostly is a very unpleasant problem. It is a complaint that can lead to a lot of pain and strong limitations in daily life. Sitting is mostly the main problem. In the medical as well as therapeutical world, there is still little known about what can be done about these problems. The doctor, physiotherapist and manual therapist mostly are just taught that the tailbone ‘is there’ and often that’s about all they learn about it in their educations. Even the pelvic therapist can often do little about it.
Patients that suffer from tailbone pain often visited a lot of doctors and therapists with unsatisfactory and inconclusive findings and treatments (if they received any at all). In that process the tailbone often wasn’t even touched. Most doctors and therapists tell their patients with tailbone that nothing can be done about it, or that it just takes a long time to heal. The often long trajectory to find help, leads in a lot of cases to restlessness and frustration. As one of the patients that consulted me, stated it very spot on:
‘Tailbone pain is a very unpleasant problem,
but what is most unpleasant is that nobody seems to understand it
and be able to tell me what’s the problem
and how to solve it.’
After a few sessions the problems were fully gone. Just like in around 80% of the patients I see, even now I see often the worst cases in my country.

Mostly people don’t end up by a specialised therapist but a only treated in the medical field. Here treatments are mostly limited to painkillers (what is solely focused on the symptom relieve) or trying to interrupt the a disrupted pain cycle through injections. These often give a quick relief, but mostly also just temporarily. Research shows that after 3 years, only 15% of people still experiences a beneficial effect of an injection. Because it is not aimed at treating the underlying cause of the problem, this approach in most cases doesn’t offer a structural solution unfortunately.
Where of course no heathcare provider has a 100% success rate, tailbone pain can be mostly very well treated in a therapeutic way if done by someone with specialised knowledge and skills. This is unfortunately rare and mostly people find such an expert after doing their own research, simply because there is so little known about this problem amongst healthcare professionals and scientific research in this field is very limited. Reading this and visiting this website means you found a place with a lot of information and recourses about tailbone pain and the treatment options. You will find where to find me and also other colleageus trained in treating tailbone pain, and hear from experts about their way of approaching tailbone pain in my podcast.
It is good to see that sometimes also the mainstream media is picking up that there is a treatment available for these problems. By clicking on the link below, you will find an article in Het Algemeen Dagblad (which also was published in the Belgium newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws) from June 2023 about tailbone problems. Unfortunately it is only available in Dutch.
