DE STIT THERAPEUT

About your therapist

My name is Roel. In 1999 I graduated as a physiotherapist and after that I specialised myself in mainly the mechanical side of the profession and the spine. For that I did my training through the Maitland, McKenzie and Mulligan institutes and in 2005 I graduated as a manual therapist.

Despite these and many other courses and educations through the years, I never learned anything about the tailbone. Only during anatomy classes its existence was shortly mentioned but nothing at all about the mechanics, function and problems of this area. On the one side understandable because it is not the most prevalent problem in the body. On the other hand people can suffer a lot of pain and restrictions because of it.

The start of my path as tailbone therapist

How painful and restricting tailbone pain can be, I encountered when my best friend fell on het buttocks and had a lot of pain and problems because of it. To het question if I could help her, I had to give her the same answer as almost every doctor or therapist gives to people with tailbone problems; ‘this is something we can’t do anything for and I am unable to help you’. Eventually she found Meine Veldman and he helped he solved het problem quickly. When she told me about it, I was surprised that there seemed to be a therapy for it, even within my own profession! I dove into the subject and learned the treatment method of Meine Veldman and Cecile Rost.

Because of the effectivity of the treatment and how unknown it was, I added a webpage about it on my personal website with information about tailbone pain. This is something people had to know about! Despite the link about how to find a colleague nearby, more and more people started to contact me for help and often it seemed my webpage was one of the few sources of information.

Also scientifically there is little known about the non-medical (injection or operation) treatment of tailbone pain, although the results of the treatments I did had mostly better results than those in the medical field. When more and more people came to my practice, I started collecting data myself since 2021 and started sharing them on my webpage.

Since this grew substantially, I decided in 2024 to make a seperate website destuittherapeut.nl for it.

Hundreds of people and treatments later

Also the people that visited me with tailbone problems kept on growing and in the meanwhile hundreds of people from all over the Netherlands and even abroad found me, just like the national media. Currently half of my working hours as a physio is filled with people that suffer from tailbone problems and there are I don’t think there are mant therapists in the Netherlands that see and treat more of these patients. Next to the experience I gained and patterns I started to see, I added the holistic approach (which I incorporated over the last decade into my work as a physiotherapist) to what I learned from the courses and developed my own unique way of therapy for the tailbone. If you want to learn more about how I work as a physiotherapist, you can visit this page.

Patients that see me often visited a lot of other doctors and therapists for their tailbone problems and regularly also had pelvic physio and injections in the hospital or clinic, but unfortunately without or with just a temporarily effect. Despite that I often see the severe and chronic cases and also people that were treated with a colleague with the external technique before, the treatment I do still is very effective and there is only a small percentage of people that I can’t help at all. Mostly patients leave the therapy after a few sessions and completely problem free.

I work in Amsterdam and you are more than welcome for therapy with me. Is this a bit too far for you, then you can find a colleague closer to where you live at Making an appointment.
