– Achim Benditz

Guest in this episode is Prof. Dr. Achim Benditz. He lives and works in Germany and is head of Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery in a hospital in the south of Germany in the Bayern region. Next to that, he runs an orthopaedic spine clinic for two days per week. His career started almost 20 years ago and he became an orthopeadic doctor and surgeon, with specialties in among others, spine related problems and treatment and of course tailbone pain. He has ten years of experience with this condition, saw around 4000 coccydynia patients and performed over 300 tailbone surgeries. People come to see him for his expertise and treatments through injections and surgical removal of the tailbone from all over Germany, and also more and more from all over Europe.

Achim alsohas a lot of experience as a scientist. He is the author or co-author of close to 100 published articles and a few of them are about tailbone pain. In them he is able to clearly explain the diagnosing and medically treatment of tailbone pain. He also has his own info channel on YouTube called Ortho Daily Five with nearly 50 videos about all kinds of medical problems, and of course there is also one about tailbone pain and even one where he shows the surgical procedure of removing the tailbone (see below).

In this episode we are going to learn how he encountered quite some resistance among his medical colleagues to become a tailbone specialist and to get his papers about it published. Also we will dive deeper into what he hears from patients and the hardships they have gone through to finally find specialised help, or even just someone in the medical field that takes their them and their problems seriously and recognises it as an actual problem of the tailbone.
